On a bus!?

Leadnow

Dear Asarial,

Have you seen the bus ads falsely claiming that burning fracked gas will reduce emissions!? The first time I saw one I did a double-take and couldn’t believe my eyes. It’s outrageous.

Leadnow supporter Peter has started an urgent petition calling on BC Transit and Translink to ban fossil fuel advertisements.

Here’s a brief explanation of Peter’s campaign:

Ban all advertisements for fossil fuels transit. Big Oil and Gas are fuelling the climate crisis. Public transit shouldn’t serve as a platform for fossil fuel industry propaganda.

Big Oil and Gas can read the writing on the wall – their industry is in decline and they will do anything to squeeze out the last bit of profit in their dying days.

Misinformation like this is part of their strategy – to delay government regulation by misleading voters with their greenwashing. [1] Ads like this can’t be allowed to continue. Can you sign the petition calling on Translink and BC Transit to ban fossil fuel advertising on transit?

Here’s some more information about the campaign:

Rapidly winding down emissions from fossil fuel extraction and burning is key to preventing climate collapse. Like cigarettes, fossil fuels are harmful products. If cigarette advertising isn’t allowed on transit, why is fossil fuel advertising?

This is just one piece of the puzzle to neutralize the influence of Big Oil and Gas. This summer, with wildfires burning across the country, the Leadnow community took on the Pathways Alliance with brand-jamming ads to expose them for the greenwashing misinformation machine that it is. And as Parliament is reconvening this month, Leadnow supporters across the country are pressuring lawmakers to reign in the fossil fuel industry with a bold Emissions Cap to limit its pollution.

Throwing a spoke in the wheel of Big Oil and Gas’ misinformation could help reduce their influence with governments and make it easier to win the climate policies we need. Can you sign the petition now calling on Translink and BC Transit to ban fossil fuel advertising?
