Summer Work Party 2025
We’re excited to see the snow melting, the birds returning, and the bears venturing out of their dens as the returning breath of Spring warms up the Yintah.
The Unist’ot’en clan and supporters of the Healing Centre have had a busy winter, with a small and hardy crew taking care of daily duties and running programming, including a Femme’s Hide Tanning Camp in February, which saw Hadakamih (Christine William) lead a group of femme folks in learning to process hides from start to finish. The group, made of new and returning guests, performed river ceremony in the cleansing cold water of Widzin Kwa, sang songs and drummed together, sewed ribbon skirts, and shared stories and support while delving into traditional knowledge from elders.
This month, as the earth warms and winter programs wind down, the Unist’ot’en are looking forward to welcoming settler and Indigenous supporters and guests for their annual Summer Work Party, from June 1st to 22nd.
We will be taking on a new project and finishing old ones, depending on who feels called to come to the land. We welcome all skills and contributions! If you can drive people to and from Vancouver, if you are able to stay for a month or a week, if you have decades of construction skills or are just really good with a sink full of dishes – we invite you!
Sleep in the roomy bunkhouse or pitch a tent under the stars. Drink from and swim in the Widzin Kwa, indulge in 3 gourmet meals a day, swing a hammer or a shovel and revel in the feeling of joyous rebellion as you support the Unist’ot’en in their mission to heal their people and their land.
Especially needed talents are construction, cooking, electrical, plumbing, pipefitting, mechanics, and forestry/lumberjack skills. We also welcome supporters to sponsor a flight with points or cash so that someone who can’t afford to travel can get there, or send along funds to help us buy supplies to feed the hungry crew.
For registration, please read our consent protocols and then register through our website here. To arrange to sponsor a flight, donate to the supply fund, or volunteer as a driver, please write to unistoten.village@gmail.com for more information.
Enjoy the flowers wherever you are, and we’ll see you at Camp!
